From the man that brought you Buried, the 2010 thriller that found Ryan Reynolds stuck in a coffin, comes Red Lights, a creepy psychological thriller that was inspired by the words paranormal and hoax, according to writer-director Rodrigo Cortés.

Interested in the tension that exists between notions of miracles and magic and those in the scientific profession who are out to prove, with reason and evidence, that such things don’t exist, Red Lights is all about contradictions and whether or not one chooses to believe what can’t be proven.

Along for the ride is Sigourney Weaver as super-cynical psychologist Margaret Matheson, Robert De Niro as the renowned psychic Simon Silver and handsome Irishman Cillian Murphy as Tom Buckley, a man of science who isn’t fully convinced that all so-called miracles can be debunked.

Cineplex.com sat down with Cortés and Murphy to ask about their own beliefs in the paranormal and what they hope audiences will take away from the movie, which hits select theatres August 10.
